JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) Cold Case Unit has announced a major breakthrough in a nearly decade-old investigation, resulting in the arrest of 34-year-old Radariaus McGauley.
On November 19, 2015, McGauley and 24-year-old Kurt Dean entered a jewelry store on Edgewood Avenue with the intent to commit a robbery. During the attempted crime, the store owner shot Dean, who later died from his injuries. McGauley fled the scene.
Despite extensive efforts at the time, the case eventually went cold.
Earlier this year, JSO detectives revisited the case, conducting new interviews and reviewing evidence with updated technology. Their renewed efforts led to the identification of McGauley as a suspect. A warrant was issued this week, and McGauley — already in custody on unrelated charges — was formally arrested.
Because he was with Dean during the attempted robbery when Dean was killed, McGauley now faces a felony murder charge, along with additional felony counts.
“Our detectives never give up on a case, even as hours, days, weeks, months, and years pass. We won’t stop until justice is served,” JSO said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing our push for justice with the State Attorney’s Office to bring closure to Dean’s family.”
