Levy County Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Sex Offender Violations

LEVY COUNTY, Fla.—A previously convicted sex offender who failed to register has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for communicating with a minor online and transmitting obscene material.

Todd Thompson, 47, was arrested on March 11 after an investigation revealed he was communicating with a minor via a social media chat room. He was charged with multiple sex offender violations as well as transmitting obscene material to a minor. Thompson entered an open plea to Circuit Judge William Davis, who sentenced him to a 20-year prison term in the Florida Department of Corrections.

In a separate case, Dakota Lee, 24, who was arrested on November 7, 2024, for aggravated child abuse and child neglect, was sentenced to five years in the Florida Department of Corrections. An investigation determined Lee had struck a three-year-old child, causing significant injuries.

Additionally, Rudy Funk, 39, was sentenced to nine years and three months in prison for the neglect of his elderly mother, for whom he was a caregiver. Evidence of willful neglect was observed after his mother passed away, and an autopsy confirmed the detectives’ suspicions.
