KISSIMMEE, Fla.—A registered sex offender has been arrested and is facing multiple charges after he allegedly solicited a 13-year-old minor online.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Broomfield Police Department in Colorado, who were investigating a case in which a minor was solicited by an individual on Snapchat. The minor, a victim in Colorado, told police that a man known as “Dan” had engaged in sexualized conversation with him, solicited and received nude photographs, and sent nude photographs of himself.
Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit detectives identified “Dan” as a registered sexual offender, 50-year-old Daniel Brent Hartley. Hartley, who was already on state probation from a 2012 case for traveling to meet a minor for unlawful sexual activity, had an unreported social media account that was not registered with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
On Thursday, September 4, detectives served a search warrant at Hartley’s residence in Kissimmee and arrested him without incident. They seized several electronic devices for forensic examination.
Hartley was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of Photo/Video of Sexual Performance by a Child
- Transmission of harmful material to a minor (2 counts)
- Solicitation of a minor
- Unlawful use of a two-way communication device
- Sexual offender fail to report internet identifier
- Violation of probation
He was booked into the Osceola County Jail with no bond. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information related to this or similar incidents to contact them at (407) 348-2222.
