PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.—A Port Charlotte man has been arrested and charged with sexual battery, burglary, and false imprisonment after he allegedly entered a woman’s home and sexually assaulted her while she slept.
On Monday, September 8, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a woman who said she woke up to find a man, identified as Braxton Jeramiah Jacobs, 19, in her bedroom holding a knife and performing sexual acts on her. The victim, who knows Jacobs, was able to make an audio recording during the incident.
Detectives located Jacobs at his home on Westchester Blvd. During an interview, he initially denied the claims, but after being presented with the audio recording and biological evidence from the scene, he confessed.
Sheriff Bill Prummell commended the victim for her “quick-thinking to obtain evidence” and praised his detectives for their work in the case.
Jacobs was arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail, where he is being held without bond. He faces felony charges of sexual battery with a weapon, burglary with assault or battery, and false imprisonment of a person against their will.
