Hillsborough County High School Principal Arrested for Failing to Report Child Abuse

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Spoto High School principal in connection with the failure to report a child abuse allegation involving a daycare on school grounds.

Detectives with HCSO’s Special Victims Section began investigating on May 9, 2025, after learning that a 4-year-old child had been inappropriately touched by a 16-year-old suspect at the daycare operated at Spoto High School in Riverview, FL.

Investigators determined that Principal Jazrick Haggins, 42, was informed of the allegations in April, but failed to report them to the Department of Children and Families or law enforcement for 14 days. Instead, Haggins told investigators he was conducting his own internal inquiry into the matter.

A warrant was later issued for Haggins’ arrest. On October 24, 2025, deputies with HCSO and officers from the Lakeland Police Department located and arrested Haggins, who was then booked into the Polk County Jail.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that school officials and mandated reporters are legally required to immediately report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to authorities.
