DNA Evidence Leads to 10-Year Sentence in Violent Bradenton Home Invasion

James Flowers, Jr., one of two men arrested in connection with a violent 2023 home invasion in Bradenton, has been sentenced to 10 years in the Florida Department of Corrections.

Flowers entered a plea of nolo contendere to home invasion robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

On the morning of March 3, 2023, Flowers, James Reid, and two unidentified suspects forced their way into a home in the 400 block of Cantabria Trail. The suspects held the homeowner at gunpoint while a woman and three children were also inside. The men stole jewelry, cash, and other valuables before fleeing the scene.

Investigators collected DNA evidence from the home, which later linked Flowers to the crime. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for him in September 2023, and he was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service in January 2024.

Flowers was sentenced to 10 years for the home invasion robbery and received a minimum of three years for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

James Reid, also linked to the same home invasion, was arrested in April 2024 while already in custody at the Pasco County Jail. Reid had been charged there with murder, attempted murder, and armed home invasion. A trial date in Manatee County has not yet been scheduled.

Detectives continue to search for the remaining two suspects involved in the robbery. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Jay Gow at jay.gow@bradentonpd.com, or submit anonymous tips at manateecrimestoppers.com.
