Sarasota Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Trafficking Deadly Fentanyl in Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, FL – A Sarasota man will spend the next 15 years in prison for bringing enough fentanyl into Collier County to potentially kill tens of thousands of people.

On Monday, 25-year-old Esteban Perez Jr. pleaded no contest to trafficking fentanyl (4 grams or more) and other narcotics-related charges, including trafficking amphetamines (28 to 200 grams). He was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to prison.

Perez was arrested in November 2023 after a Collier County deputy stopped his vehicle in North Naples and discovered 987 fentanyl pills weighing 119.2 grams, along with cocaine, methamphetamine, amphetamine, marijuana, and other substances. Authorities note that just one kilogram of fentanyl can be lethal to roughly 500,000 people.

“This sentence sends a clear message that Collier County has zero tolerance for fentanyl and for the people who traffic it,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “If you bring this poison into Collier County, you will be arrested and held accountable.”

The sheriff’s office continues its Laced & Lethal campaign to educate the public about the dangers of fentanyl while targeting traffickers with enforcement efforts.
