Charlotte County Deputy Arrested for Solicitation of a Minor After Internal Investigation

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell announced the arrest of one of his own deputies after an internal investigation revealed the deputy was engaged in inappropriate communications with a minor through social media.

Deputy James Ford was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office investigative unit and is facing serious charges:

  • Solicitation of a Minor
  • Sending Harmful Material to a Minor
  • Harmful Communication to a Minor

Deputy Ford is currently being held in the Charlotte County Jail and has been placed on Administrative Leave Without Pay.

Sheriff Prummell addressed the public directly, expressing his disappointment: “Any time a deputy is arrested, it damages the trust that we have worked so hard to build with our community… I wanted to make sure you heard this news directly from me.”

The Sheriff noted that the investigation is active and ongoing and that the agency will share further information as it becomes available.
