Clay County, Fla. — On November 6, 2025, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) arrested a fifth-grade student from Oakleaf Village Elementary after she was found with a pocketknife in her backpack.
According to CCSO, school officials discovered the knife, a pocketknife with a 3-inch blade, during the school day. Deputies conducted a criminal investigation in coordination with school administrators, which included interviews with the student, her parents, and additional students. Investigators determined that the student had brought the knife to school the previous day, November 5.
The knife was seized as evidence, and a threat assessment was completed. CCSO confirmed there was no lawful reason or authorized purpose for the weapon to be on school property.
The student was arrested under Florida Statute 790.115, which prohibits possessing or discharging weapons or firearms at a school-sponsored event or on school property. She was then transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice – Duval Detention Center.
