On Monday, November 3, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit arrested 48-year-old Marisa Humose following an investigation into financial theft and fraud at a local church.
In June, the church’s pastor reported suspected discrepancies after discovering unauthorized transfers from the church’s Cash App account. Humose, who served as the church treasurer from 2022 through June 2025, had access to the church’s bank and Cash App accounts and was responsible for maintaining financial records.
The investigation determined that Humose stole more than $70,000 from the church’s Cash App account over the past three years. She was arrested and booked into the Leon County Detention Facility on charges of Organized Scheme to Defraud and Grand Theft over $50,000.
Humose was also employed as an administrative assistant with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and was involuntarily terminated on November 3 as a result of a separate investigation by FWC’s Office of Inspector General.
