Crescent City Man Arrested for Stabbing Death of Stranger at Dollar General

PUTNAM COUNTY, FL – Lemar Beasley, 54, was arrested Saturday evening, November 15th in connection with the stabbing death of Cheyenne Kastens, 36, of Georgetown.

According to witnesses, Kastens and Beasley were both at the Dollar General in Fruitland on Friday afternoon, though there was no apparent interaction or known connection between them. Kastens was outside near her car when Beasley attacked and stabbed her. Deputies performed CPR at the scene until paramedics transported her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Sheriff H.D. “Gator” DeLoach expressed his condolences to Kastens’ family, saying, “Our prayers and deepest condolences are to the family and friends of Cheyenne Kastens. While I cannot take away their pain, my promise to her family and our community is that we will do everything to ensure this refuse of human garbage spends the rest of his life confined in a cell, away from society.”

Beasley fled the scene, prompting a 24-hour manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. Detectives located him in a camper on Huntington Shortcut Road on Saturday afternoon. A knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered nearby.

Beasley, a convicted registered sex offender with an extensive criminal history dating back to 1991, had recently been released from prison in July after serving five years for failing to comply with sex offender registration. He is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, a capital felony that carries a potential death penalty.
