JACKSONVILLE, FL – A 31-year-old man is in custody after authorities say he shot and killed a woman in the parking lot of a Mandarin-area fitness center over the weekend.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office patrol officers were called to a shooting on Sunbeam Road Saturday night, where they found 24-year-old Cherrish Nunley unresponsive in the parking lot. She was pronounced dead before officers arrived. The Medical Examiner later ruled her death a homicide.
Homicide detectives quickly identified Randy Campbell as the suspect. Working with the State Attorney’s Office, investigators secured a warrant for his arrest. The U.S. Marshals Task Force tracked Campbell to Dallas, Texas, where Dallas Police arrested him earlier this week. He remains in custody and will be extradited to Jacksonville after the legal process is completed.
JSO extended condolences to Nunley’s family and emphasized its commitment to working with prosecutors to ensure accountability.
The Sheriff’s Office also noted that this case was one of several recent incidents that fueled unfounded rumors about a supposed serial killer in Jacksonville. Campbell is not a suspect in any of the other recent homicides, and detectives continue pursuing those cases independently.
The investigation into Nunley’s killing remains active.
