Two Elderly Men Arrested in Undercover Operation at Fort Pierce Nature Preserve

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men on November 24 after an undercover operation responding to ongoing complaints of lewd behavior at the DJ Wilcox Preserve in Fort Pierce. Detectives from the Special Investigations Division set up surveillance in the area and quickly encountered two separate incidents.

According to the sheriff’s office, an adult male approached an undercover detective within minutes, exposed himself and solicited sexual activity. He was arrested immediately. A short time later, a second man approached the same detective and made a similar proposition, leading to another arrest.

Deputies identified the men as 82-year-old Claude Higgins and 87-year-old Dallas Freeman. Both face charges of exposure of sexual organs.

Officials noted that the preserve is meant for recreation and nature walks, not sexual activity, and warned that those who engage in indecent behavior in parks or trails may find themselves facing criminal charges.

Both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
