Man Who Re-Entered U.S. Illegally Arrested for Palm Coast Burglary

PALM COAST, FL – Following a nine-month investigation, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man who re-entered the United States illegally after a previous deportation for burglarizing a residence in Palm Coast.

On January 28, deputies responded to a reported residential burglary on Pritchard Lane. The homeowner told deputies she had arrived to find the power off and her home ransacked, with between $2,500 and $3,000 in cash stolen. Detectives determined the suspect had intentionally turned off the circuit breaker in the garage, unplugged the modem, and covered the home security camera with a jacket to avoid detection.

Investigators collected evidence at the scene, including a red smear on a pizza box later confirmed to be blood. DNA analysis by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement linked the evidence to 33-year-old William Vargas-Carmona of Jacksonville, a Colombian citizen who had been previously deported in September 2024.

A warrant for Vargas-Carmona’s arrest was issued on October 14 for burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and grand theft. On November 21, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement located him in Jacksonville, arrested him, and transported him to the Baker County Detention Center. He remains held without bond pending extradition to Flagler County.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said, “This individual was in our country illegally, deported once, and returned to prey on our community. He made the mistake of coming to Flagler County. We work with our federal partners to remove criminals from our streets and ensure public safety.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
