PALM COAST, FL – Two Colombian nationals are in custody following a two-year investigation into a residential burglary that occurred in the F-Section of Palm Coast in 2023.
Brothers Juan Sebastian Moyano Gonzalez, 20, and Juan Camilo Moyano Gonzalez, 18, were arrested in Jacksonville after Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Fugitive Unit detectives coordinated with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Arrest warrants had been issued for both on November 7. Both men are facing deportation.
The investigation began on October 4, 2023, after FCSO deputies responded to a burglary on Farver Lane, where multiple items including cash, jewelry, and wallets were stolen. Evidence indicated forced entry. Using the FCSO Real Time Crime Center, detectives identified a suspect vehicle linked to other crimes targeting Asian business owners in St. Johns County.
Further investigation revealed that the brothers had used tracking devices to surveil Asian business owners and their employees before burglarizing homes. Forensic analysis of Juan Sebastian Moyano Gonzalez’s phone confirmed that he had searched for Asian-owned businesses and discussed the exact location of the victims’ residence prior to the burglary.
Sheriff Rick Staly said, “The use of tracking devices to target Asian business owners has become a nationwide trend. These suspects thought they could slip into our community and commit crimes unnoticed. Thanks to the work of our deputies, detectives, and our partners, they’re behind bars and will ultimately be deported back to Colombia.”
The brothers face charges of grand theft over $20,000 and burglary of an unoccupied dwelling. They were transferred to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where Juan Sebastian Moyano Gonzalez is held without bond and Juan Camilo Moyano Gonzalez is held on a $25,000 bond. ICE detainers have been issued, ensuring their eventual deportation after local charges are resolved.
