Original Post:

St. Johns County, FL – The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting that unfolded Tuesday afternoon after deputies responded to a disturbance call where dispatchers heard what sounded like gunshots.

The incident began around 3:40 p.m. on December 2, 2025, when a 911 caller reported a disturbance at a business near International Golf Parkway. While the caller was on the line, dispatchers heard what they believed were gunshots, prompting deputies to head to the scene as a potential active shooter situation.

As responding units traveled toward the business, deputies spotted a vehicle believed to be driven by the suspect heading south on U.S. 1. A pursuit began, and deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, causing it to crash on the shoulder. The driver got out and ran, armed with a handgun.

Deputies issued multiple commands for him to drop the weapon. When he failed to comply, deputies fired. The adult male suspect was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

According to investigators, the suspect had confronted an associate at the business before deputies arrived and fired several shots at that person, who was not injured.

Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name, pending next-of-kin notification. No deputies were hurt, and investigators say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation and continued working through the night. Additional information will be provided as the case develops.
