ST. AUGUSTINE – St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit detectives are investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred on December 2, 2025.
According to the SJSO, deputies were dispatched to 38 Thomas Industry Way following a 911 call in which a disturbance and gunshots were reported. Additional callers described someone firing at a person and provided a description of a fleeing vehicle. Investigators later determined the initial 911 call had been made by the suspect.
Deputies located the vehicle on US 1 near White Castle Road and used a PIT maneuver to disable it. The suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Kristopher Lee Johnson of St. Augustine, exited the vehicle with a firearm and moved toward stopped traffic. Deputies discharged their firearms, ending the threat. Johnson was transported to a nearby medical center and pronounced deceased.
The victim was not injured. Detectives reported that the victim had arranged to meet Johnson at the location and was not expecting an altercation. The victim fled on foot while being shot at and later secured help from a passing vehicle.
The deputies involved were Corporal Robert Hill, with eight years of service, and Deputy Jacob Johannes, with one year of service. Both have been placed on administrative leave, per standard protocol during such investigations.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with home, business, or cell phone video related to the incident to submit it through the department’s evidence portal.
