ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Two women were seriously injured Thursday evening after a shooting inside a home on Lena Street, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident was reported around 6:45 p.m. on December 4, 2025. Deputies arrived to find two female victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were treated at the scene and then flown to a nearby medical center as trauma patients. Authorities said the women are expected to survive.
Investigators determined the shooting was an isolated incident limited to the residence.
While deputies secured the area, the SJSO Air Unit located the suspect nearby and guided ground units to his position. A short time later, Firearms Detection K9 Scout and Deputy Wright found a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit arrested 37-year-old Michael Terrell Hankerson. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder.
The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details have been released.
