Lake City Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect After Weeklong Investigation

LAKE CITY, FL – On December 2, 2025, officers from the Lake City Police Department responded to a robbery in progress at Dollar General, 136 NE Bascom Norris Drive, after a suspect reportedly threatened a store employee with a handgun.

Investigators learned that a male suspect entered the store, took an alcoholic beverage, and left without paying. A store employee followed the suspect and a female companion outside, prompting the male to expose a handgun in his waistband and threaten the employee and others before fleeing.

Police identified the suspect as 33-year-old Aljowan Denard Jones of Lake City. A warrant for his arrest was approved by the State Attorney’s Office and signed by a judge. On December 9, detectives, with assistance from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, located and arrested Jones without incident.

Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler praised the teamwork involved in the case. “I am proud of the persistence our detectives showed in this case and grateful for the strong partnership we have with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office,” Butler said. “Their assistance in locating and safely apprehending this armed suspect was critical, and this is a clear example of how working together keeps our community safer.”
