A Bradenton contractor who targeted elderly residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton has been arrested on 13 felony charges, following an investigation by Bradenton Police.
In July 2025, Detective Michael Carpenter began investigating complaints from 14 residents of Seabreeze Mobile Home Park, aged 62 to 95. Victims hired Brian Michaud, operating as RedFin Construction, to repair damage to carports, lanais, roofs, and sheds, making down payments totaling $222,000. Michaud failed to complete any of the contracted work.
Further investigation revealed that Michaud was not a licensed contractor in Florida and had used another company’s license to operate. Financial records from October 2024 through April 2025 showed that Michaud spent significant funds—over $53,000—at casinos and for personal expenses, with minimal evidence of construction-related spending benefiting the victims.
Michaud faces multiple charges, including:
- Ten counts of presenting someone else’s contractor’s license during a declared state of emergency (third-degree felonies)
- One count of scheming to defraud ($50,000 or more, first-degree felony)
- One count of misappropriation of construction funds ($100,000 or more, first-degree felony)
- One count of aggravated white-collar crime against an elderly victim ($50,000 or more, first-degree felony)
He is currently held without bond at the Manatee County Jail. Authorities are continuing the investigation, and anyone with similar complaints against Michaud or RedFin Construction is urged to contact Detective Carpenter at michael.carpenter@bradentonpd.com.
