Puppy Thief’s Getaway Falls Apart as Stolen Pomeranian Is Recovered in Polk County

STUART, FL – A stolen puppy is back where it belongs after a lighthearted crime took a serious turn across county lines.

On December 6, 2025, Stuart Police responded to a report from a local pet store after a Pomeranian puppy, valued at nearly $2,900, was stolen. Investigators learned the suspect attempted to leave the store by concealing the puppy inside her shirt and walking out undetected. The plan, however, quickly unraveled.

Stuart Police Detectives immediately began investigating and followed leads that ultimately took them to Polk County. With assistance from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was located and taken into custody, and the stolen puppy was safely recovered.

The puppy was returned unharmed and can now continue its path toward finding a loving forever home.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Bobbi Joe Zitko, was arrested and charged with Grand Theft. She was transported to the Polk County Jail.

Stuart Police thanked the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance, noting that teamwork played a key role in resolving the case and bringing a paw-sitively unacceptable crime to a successful conclusion.
