Duval County to Break Ground on Two New Elementary Schools in January 2026

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. – Duval County is set to kick off 2026 with major educational developments, as Team Duval prepares to begin construction on two new elementary schools: Pickett Elementary and Hogan–Spring Glen Elementary. Both schools are scheduled to open in August 2027.

Pickett Elementary
The new Pickett Elementary will consolidate students from the former Pickett, Reynolds Lane, and S.A. Hull elementary schools into a single, modern campus. The facility will feature state-of-the-art classrooms and amenities designed to meet a broad range of student needs.

Demolition of the old Pickett Elementary site is slated to begin in early to mid-January 2026. Following the consolidation, the existing buildings at Reynolds Lane and S.A. Hull will also be demolished. The project represents a $73 million investment aimed at creating a larger, more efficient campus and enhancing educational opportunities for the community.

During construction, Reynolds Lane Elementary will serve as temporary transition space for students.

Hogan–Spring Glen Elementary
Construction for Hogan–Spring Glen Elementary is also set to begin in early to mid-January 2026. Students will attend other district schools during the build. The new school will primarily serve students from Hogan–Spring Glen, with additional enrollment from Love Grove and Englewood elementary schools.

An Advisory Committee Engagement process will start in January 2026 to help finalize attendance boundaries and gather community input.

Spring Park Elementary
A third project, Spring Park Elementary, is also expected to open in August 2027. This school will bring together students zoned for Spring Park and select students from Love Grove and Englewood. Demolition and construction dates for this campus have not yet been set.

These projects mark a significant step in Duval County’s commitment to modernizing school facilities and creating more consolidated, efficient learning environments for students.
