Apopka Woman Indicted on Federal Wire Fraud Conspiracy Charge

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A federal grand jury has indicted Xin Liu, 40, of Apopka, Florida, on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, U.S. authorities announced.

The indictment was revealed by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida. Liu appeared for arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Midori A. Lowry in Gainesville on December 23, 2025. A jury trial is scheduled for January 28, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. before Chief District Court Judge Allen C. Winsor.

If convicted, Liu faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigations, and the Gainesville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Hapner is prosecuting the case.

Officials emphasized that an indictment represents only allegations by a grand jury and is not evidence of guilt. Liu, like all defendants, is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
