GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Devon Oliver, 18, of Gainesville, Florida, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of possession of a firearm with a removed serial number, officials announced.
The indictment was announced by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida. Oliver appeared for his arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Midori A. Lowry on December 23, 2025. His jury trial is scheduled for January 28, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. before Chief District Court Judge Allen C. Winsor.
If convicted, Oliver faces up to five years in federal prison.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Gainesville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Hapner is prosecuting the case.
Officials noted that an indictment represents allegations by a grand jury and is not evidence of guilt. Oliver is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Authorities said the case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal firearms, organized crime, and violent criminal activity to protect communities.
