GAINESVILLE, FL – On the morning of Thursday, January 1, 2026, Alachua County deputies responded to a reported stabbing at a residence in the 2000 block of SE 45th Terrace.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with victims and witnesses, who described a violent altercation inside the home. According to officials, 44-year-old Thomas Lamont Sanford became involved in a verbal dispute during which he threatened, “I will kill everyone and won’t be found.” When a victim attempted to intervene, Sanford allegedly grabbed a large knife, stabbed the victim, and threw them across a table. Another person who tried to assist was also confronted by Sanford.

A witness inside the home called law enforcement while the incident was occurring. Sanford initially refused to exit the residence when deputies arrived, even after multiple verbal commands. He was ultimately apprehended by an agency K9 and transported to a local hospital for evaluation before being taken to the Alachua County Jail.

A background check revealed Sanford is a convicted felon with prior convictions for Intimidating/Forcing a Witness, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, and two counts of Battery.

Sanford faces charges of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Felony Battery with Prior Convictions, and Resisting without Violence.
