On December 26, 2025, deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Felony Unit were conducting surveillance in the 2200 block of Buchanan Bay Circle as part of an ongoing homicide investigation stemming from a murder that occurred on Christmas Eve.
Deputies were preparing to serve a DNA search warrant when two men exited the residence under surveillance. According to investigators, one of the men, not the homicide suspect, suddenly opened fire on deputies, striking an unmarked law enforcement vehicle.
A deputy returned fire, striking the 20-year-old shooter. Deputies immediately rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived and transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he was undergoing surgery later that evening. The man is expected to face charges for firing at deputies.
The homicide suspect, who investigators say was also armed with a handgun at the time, was detained at the scene and questioned by detectives.
As required by standard procedure, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy-involved shooting and will submit its findings to the State Attorney’s Office for review. Following that process, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office will conduct an internal investigation. The deputy who discharged their weapon has been placed on temporary, paid administrative leave.
