PUTNAM COUNTY, FL – A teenager has died following a shooting Saturday night in Palatka, and police say the investigation is still ongoing.
Officers with the Palatka Police Department responded to the 2500 block of West Main Street on the evening of Saturday, January 3, 2026, after receiving a report of a person who had been shot. When officers arrived, they found 17-year-old Lawrence Evans suffering from a gunshot wound.
Evans was transported to Shands for treatment, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators determined that Montravien Oxendine was responsible for the shooting. Oxendine was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with evidence. Police have not released additional details about what led up to the shooting.
Authorities say the case remains active, and additional charges could be possible as the investigation continues.
