TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Troy Hartmann, 56, a high school basketball coach in Leon County, was arrested on Wednesday, January 7, following an FDLE undercover operation targeting online predators.
Hartmann faces four charges: online solicitation of a minor, harmful communication with a minor, transmitting harmful material to a minor, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. Authorities emphasized that none of the charges involve any current or former students.
The investigation began in November 2025 when FDLE agents, working through their Tallahassee Regional Operations Center, engaged in an undercover operation. Hartmann reportedly communicated with an agent posing as a 15-year-old female, which led to the charges.
FDLE coordinated the arrest with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Tallahassee Police Department, and Leon County Schools’ Department of Safety and Security. Hartmann was booked into the Leon County Jail, and the case will be prosecuted by the State Attorney’s Office for the 2nd Judicial Circuit.
FDLE officials say the investigation is ongoing and are urging anyone with additional information to contact them at (850) 410-7640.
