Gainesville Woman Charged With Murder After Infant Found Drowned in Bathtub

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 23-year-old Gainesville woman has been arrested and charged with homicide after police say her 7-month-old baby was found unresponsive in a bathtub inside a northeast Gainesville apartment.

According to the Gainesville Police Department, officers and emergency medical personnel responded to Sweetwater Square Apartments, located at 3501 NE 15th Street, after a female caller told 911 operators that she had drowned her baby.

When first responders arrived, they found a 7-month-old female infant unresponsive in a bathtub. Life-saving measures were immediately initiated, and the child was transported to UF Health Shands Pediatrics, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police identified the suspect as Tierra Anne Scott-Franklin, 23. She was taken into custody and charged with premeditated first-degree murder. Scott-Franklin was also charged with violation of probation.

She was transported to the Alachua County Jail and is scheduled to make her first court appearance on January 15, 2026.
