Multi-State Child Abuse Investigation Leads to Arrest of Predator in St. Lucie County

FORT PIERCE, FL – A massive multi-state investigation into the serial abuse of three minor children has culminated in the arrest of a 40-year-old man in St. Lucie County. Terry Farmer was taken into custody on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, following a probe that spanned nearly a dozen states and multiple years.

The investigation began in December 2025 after St. Lucie County deputies responded to a home in the northern part of the county to assist the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

A Trail of Abuse Across Eight States

As detectives delved into the case, they uncovered a harrowing history of physical and sexual violence against three minors. The investigation, led by Detective Diaz, revealed that the abuse was not isolated to Florida but occurred as the suspect traveled through or resided in:

  • Florida
  • Colorado & Oklahoma
  • California & Minnesota
  • Oregon & Illinois
  • Tennessee

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) is currently coordinating with law enforcement in each of these jurisdictions, as well as local partners including the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office and the Fort Myers and Fort Pierce Police Departments.

Serious Charges and Historic Bond

Farmer faces a litany of “Domestic” designated charges reflecting the close relationship he had with the victims:

  • 8 Counts: Sexual Battery/Assault on a Child (12 or younger)
  • 1 Count: Lewd and Lascivious Behavior with a Victim (under 12)
  • 1 Count: Child Abuse Without Great Bodily Harm
  • 1 Count: Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor

Farmer is currently held at the St. Lucie County Jail. A judge has set his bond at an extraordinary $1,725,000, reflecting the severity of the allegations and the potential flight risk.

Ongoing Investigation: Public Help Needed

Authorities believe there may be additional victims or witnesses across the country who have not yet come forward. The investigation remains active.
