LEON COUNTY, FL – Deputies with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 55-year-old man Friday in connection with two homicides that occurred in Leon County.
On the morning of January 16th, at approximately 11:30 a.m., deputies responded to the 150 block of Bethel By The Lake Drive after receiving a report of an adult female found deceased. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, Flay Rollins was identified as a suspect. As detectives continued their work, they were notified by the U.S. Marshals Task Force that Rollins had already been located and taken into custody at the Leon County Detention Facility on a warrant issued by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office in connection with a homicide in Valdosta, Georgia.
While in custody, investigators say Rollins admitted to the Bethel By The Lake homicide and disclosed information about a second homicide in Leon County. Based on details provided by Rollins, detectives were led to a second deceased individual located in the Apalachicola National Forest. That victim, an adult woman, was also found to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
The Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed the victim found in the Apalachicola National Forest was pregnant at the time of her death.
As a result of the investigation, Rollins has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as detectives continue to gather evidence.
