Woman Sentenced to Life for Killing Roommate with Cast-Iron Stand in North Naples

NAPLES, Fla. – A 41-year-old woman convicted of killing her roommate in a brutal 2019 attack was sentenced Thursday to life in prison following an investigation by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

Amanda Cherie Cook was sentenced Jan. 22, 2026, by Joseph Foster after a jury found her guilty in December of second-degree murder with a dangerous weapon. Cook became disruptive during the sentencing hearing and was removed from the courtroom as the sentence was imposed.

The conviction stems from a July 3, 2019, incident inside an apartment in North Naples, where investigators said Cook fatally attacked her 64-year-old roommate. According to the sheriff’s office, Cook struck the victim with a 9-pound cast-iron microphone stand.

After the attack, Cook drove to her mother’s nearby home. Authorities said the two later returned to the apartment, where Cook’s mother called 911.

Crime scene investigators recovered the victim’s DNA from the base of the microphone stand. Cook’s fingerprint was found just above the base, and her DNA was located on the top of the stand, according to investigators.

During the trial, Collier County Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Manfred Borges testified that the victim’s injuries were consistent with those typically seen in high-impact vehicle crashes.

Cook will spend the remainder of her life in prison under the sentence imposed by the court.
