Armed Home Invasion Attempt in Lake City Thwarted, Four Arrested After Suspects Flee Scene

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – Four people were arrested Sunday morning after deputies say an attempted armed home invasion was stopped by a homeowner who refused to open the door and immediately reported the incident.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. on January 25, 2026, in the NE Moody Court area in Lake City. A homeowner reported hearing a loud knock at the front door and, upon looking through a window, saw an unknown white male pointing a handgun and demanding entry.

Deputies said the homeowner refused to open the door. The suspect then attempted to kick the door in twice, but each time the homeowner forced it shut. Investigators said the suspects then began breaking the front windows in an effort to gain entry before abandoning the attempt and fleeing in two vehicles: a silver Nissan car and a red Ford Expedition SUV.

The homeowner contacted 911 and provided vehicle descriptions. Through neighborhood canvassing and witness statements, deputies identified a female suspect, Pamela Lynn Roach, 55, as the owner of the red Ford Expedition. Deputies responded to her residence on SW Kemp Court, where both the red Ford Expedition and a silver Nissan Altima were found in the driveway.

Investigators identified the two male suspects as Shawn F. Holt, 39, and Walter S. Slaughter, 26. Deputies reported that all three suspects were still wearing the same clothing seen in home security video from the attempted robbery.

During a search of the residence, deputies recovered two firearms believed to have been used in the incident: a Sig Sauer P365 9mm handgun and a Savage Arms .380 firearm.

While conducting the investigation at the property, deputies also located a fourth individual, Jimmy Raymond Dumas, 32, hiding under a tarp in an outbuilding. A records check revealed Dumas had an active warrant out of Columbia County for violation of probation.

Roach, Holt, and Slaughter were arrested and charged with home invasion robbery with a firearm. Dumas was arrested on the outstanding probation violation warrant. All four were transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility, where they are being held without bond.
