Escambia Deputy Arrests Man Accused of Abandoning Two Dogs on Rural Road

An Escambia County deputy quickly intervened after two dogs were allegedly dumped along a rural roadway, leading to the arrest of a 60-year-old man on animal cruelty charges.

According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began on January 21, 2026, when a deputy observed a red Chevy Silverado traveling along Becks Lake Road with two dogs riding in the bed of the truck. A short time later, the same vehicle passed the deputy again, this time without the dogs.

Moments after that encounter, a concerned citizen flagged the deputy down and reported seeing a red truck abandon two dogs before fleeing the area. The deputy immediately responded and located the dogs on a dead-end portion of Becks Lake Road. The animals were safely secured in the deputy’s patrol Tahoe.

Investigators ran the truck’s license plate and reviewed surveillance footage, which identified 60-year-old Bryan Wayne Mott as the driver and owner of the Silverado. When contacted, Mott initially denied any involvement, then gave several conflicting explanations about how the dogs were left at the end of Becks Lake Road without food or water. Surveillance video later confirmed the truck traveling northbound with the dogs near Old Chemstrand Road and Highway 29.

Animal Control responded to the scene and took custody of the dogs to ensure they received proper care.

On January 29, 2026, Mott was arrested and charged with two counts of Animal Cruelty for abandonment of an animal.

Authorities credited the alert citizen and the deputy’s swift response with ensuring the dogs’ safety.
