Son Arrested After Mother Found Stabbed to Death in Clearwater

CLEARWATER, Florida – Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office detectives with the Robbery and Homicide Unit are investigating a deadly stabbing that occurred Thursday afternoon in unincorporated Clearwater.

On January 29, 2026, at approximately 2:58 p.m., deputies responded to the area of 29081 U.S. Highway 19 North after a 911 caller reported receiving a phone call from a suspect who claimed he had killed his mother. When deputies arrived at the residence, they discovered a woman inside a bedroom suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The victim was identified as 65-year-old Yolanda Sanchez. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

During the investigation, detectives determined that a verbal altercation had taken place between Yolanda and her son, 24-year-old Daniel Sanchez. Investigators say the argument escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Daniel stabbed his mother multiple times. Daniel later admitted to the stabbing.

Daniel Sanchez was taken into custody and charged with Second Degree Murder. He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives continue to gather additional information related to the incident.
