Son Arrested in Deadly Strangulation of Mother in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 31-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge following the death of his mother inside a Hidden Hills neighborhood home, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday, January 30, 2026, District 2 patrol officers responded to a reported battery at a residence in the 4200 block of Bleinheim Place. When officers arrived, they found 62-year-old Jaqueline Jones-Garrison inside the home. She had been strangled and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives with the JSO Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation and quickly identified Jones-Garrison’s son, 31-year-old Avery Garrison, as the suspect. Garrison was located and arrested during the early morning hours of Saturday, January 31.

Garrison was booked into the Duval County Jail and charged with Murder in the Second Degree. He is currently being held without bond.

“Our hearts go out to Jones-Garrison’s family and friends at this time,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives continue to work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
