Maine Man Arrested on Child Exploitation Charges Following FDLE Jacksonville Undercover Operation

PORTLAND, Maine – A Portland man has been arrested on multiple child exploitation-related charges following an undercover investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, authorities announced.

Jeremy Trufant, 43, was arrested on seven counts of transmission of harmful material to a minor and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device. The arrest stems from FDLE’s statewide initiative aimed at identifying and arresting individuals who target children and share material depicting the sexual abuse of minors.

According to FDLE, the investigation began on Oct. 16, 2025, when agents with FDLE Jacksonville conducted an undercover online chat operation. During the operation, agents identified an adult male who was sending explicit messages, images, and videos to an undercover agent posing as a juvenile. Investigators later identified the suspect as Trufant.

An arrest warrant was obtained, and on Jan. 29, 2026, Trufant was taken into custody by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office in Portland. He was booked into the Cumberland County Detention Facility and is awaiting extradition to Florida.

The case will be prosecuted by the State Attorney’s Office of the First Judicial Circuit. The investigation remains active.
