Two Women Killed in Union County Shooting; Suspect Dies by Suicide After Interstate Chase

UNION COUNTY, Florida – Two women were fatally shot Tuesday afternoon in western Union County, Florida, prompting a multi-county manhunt that ended hours later on Interstate 75 with the suspect’s death from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 3, 2026, to reports of shots fired off Southwest County Road 241 in the Providence area. Upon arrival, deputies found two adult female victims dead at the scene from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators said the suspect fled the area before deputies arrived, driving a four-door black 2020 Ford F-150.

While securing the scene, deputies made telephone contact with the suspect as they assisted victims and gathered witness information. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was requested to assist with the crime scene and double homicide investigation. Authorities said initial findings indicate the incident may be domestic-related. The victims’ names were not released pending notification of next of kin.

A statewide alert was issued as the suspect fled. Working with neighboring agencies, including the Florida Highway Patrol and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, law enforcement tracked the vehicle into Alachua County.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving notification just after 5 p.m. that a person of interest was believed to be traveling through the county. Using real-time intelligence systems, deputies determined the truck had entered Interstate 75 southbound. At approximately 5:26 p.m., an ACSO deputy located the vehicle near mile marker 386 and was joined by additional deputies and FHP troopers.

Authorities attempted a traffic stop around 5:30 p.m., but the driver fled at high speed. Due to the severity of the earlier violence and the dangerous speeds, an FHP trooper performed a Precision Immobilization Technique, bringing the vehicle to a stop on the west shoulder of I-75. Interstate traffic was shut down in both directions as a safety precaution.

Multiple specialized units, including ACSO SWAT, the ACSO Aviation Unit, the Gainesville Police Department Drone Unit, and the ACSO Negotiations Response Team, were activated. After repeated commands went unanswered, SWAT officers approached the vehicle and found the lone male driver deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

FDLE, in conjunction with the Union County Sheriff’s Office, is leading the investigation into the double homicide. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Criminal Investigations Bureau are assisting with the investigation at the I-75 scene. Authorities said the investigation remains active.
