Seabreeze High School Paraprofessional Arrested After Alleged Assault of Student

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A Seabreeze High School paraprofessional was arrested Thursday following an investigation into an incident involving a student on campus, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Police said the incident was first reported to a Seabreeze High School assistant principal, who then notified the on-campus school resource officer. The resource officer initiated a criminal investigation into the matter.

Investigators determined that the paraprofessional, identified as Dontel Wright, 50, intentionally and unlawfully kicked a 17-year-old student during a behavioral incident. Police said the student ran from Wright and attempted to hide under bleachers. Investigators said Wright followed the student and forcibly pulled the student from beneath the bleachers.

Authorities said the student did not sustain any injuries. The student’s parents have been notified and indicated they intend to press charges on behalf of their child.

As a result of the investigation, Wright was arrested by the Daytona Beach Police Department. Officials said the case remains active, and no additional details are being released at this time.
