Pedestrian Killed in Late-Night Crash at Ormond Beach Intersection

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — The Ormond Beach Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on February 14, 2026, at approximately 10:54 p.m. at the intersection of South Orchard Street and Division Avenue.

According to investigators, two pedestrians were traveling eastbound on Division Avenue and were turning left onto South Orchard Street when a 79-year-old driver traveling southbound on South Orchard Street failed to stop at a stop sign and struck one of the pedestrians. Police say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision.

The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Volusia County Emergency Medical Services. The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver was not injured in the crash but was transported to a hospital for further medical evaluation after reportedly exhibiting symptoms consistent with dementia.

“This is a tragic loss of life and a difficult reminder how quickly lives can change on our roadways,” said OBPD Capt. Chris Roos. “We strongly urge drivers to obey posted speed limits, remain alert and use extra caution at night, especially when visibility is low and pedestrians are difficult to spot.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer James Feeley at 386-229-7162 or James.Feeley@ormondbeach.org.
