Nearly 70 Pounds of Marijuana Seized in Jacksonville Westside Bust After Shooting Call

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 25-year-old convicted felon is facing multiple felony charges after officers seized nearly 70 pounds of marijuana from a Westside home while responding to a shots-fired call.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, District 5 Patrol officers were dispatched Wednesday, February 11, to the area of Wilcox Street and West 5th Street following reports of multiple gunshots.

When officers arrived, they observed a home with several bullet holes. During a protective sweep of the residence, officers saw a large quantity of marijuana in plain view. Authorities later determined the total amount seized was 68.48 pounds. Investigators also noted multiple bullet holes inside the home’s interior walls.

Narcotics Unit detectives obtained a search warrant and continued the investigation. During the search, detectives recovered two firearms, a Glock handgun and a rifle, along with more than $2,000 in cash.

Benwah Shemar Wilson, 25, was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Marijuana, Possession of Felony Paraphernalia, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Knowingly Renting a Structure for the Sale of Narcotics. All charges are felonies. He has bonded out of jail.

Authorities emphasized that marijuana remains illegal under Florida law.
