ALACHUA COUNTY, Florida – Two people were arrested Tuesday night after deputies responded to what was initially reported as a burglary at a home in southwest Alachua County.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched during the evening hours of February 17, 2026, to a residence in the 6000 block of SW 9th Place in Gainesville. Once on scene, deputies determined no burglary had occurred. Instead, the situation involved a disagreement related to a minor who lives at the home.
When deputies explained that no law enforcement action would be taken based on the circumstances, 44-year-old Major Willfork and 40-year-old Chanda Lorick became increasingly upset, authorities said.
Investigators say Willfork lunged at a deputy, grabbed the deputy’s vest, and attempted to headbutt them. He was immediately detained.
After Willfork’s arrest, Lorick reportedly stated she also wanted to be arrested. Deputies told her she had not committed a crime and would not be taken into custody. As deputies began to leave, Lorick followed them outside, picked up a nearby chair, and threw it at a deputy, striking them. She was then detained.
Both Willfork and Lorick were charged with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.
The sheriff’s office reported that the deputies involved were not seriously injured and were able to continue working. Authorities emphasized that violence toward law enforcement only escalates situations and can lead to serious consequences.
