Palm Springs Man Arrested in Nassau County for Alleged Copper Wire Theft Scheme

NASSAU COUNTY, Florida – The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Palm Springs man accused of taking part in a fraudulent scheme involving thousands of dollars in electrical materials.

Jose David Davila, 37, was arrested Wednesday, February 18, and charged with two counts of organized trafficking of stolen property and two counts of theft.

According to investigators, the case began Tuesday when a local electrical supply store reported a suspicious purchase. Davila allegedly claimed to be employed by a local electric company and placed an order for copper wire valued at more than $2,800. He requested that the invoice be sent to an email address that was later determined to be fraudulent before arriving at the store, signing for the materials, and leaving with the merchandise.

The following day, the same business reported receiving another order from Davila for multiple spools of copper wire valued at more than $18,000. Investigators coordinated with the store and intercepted Davila when he arrived to pick up the materials, taking him into custody.

During the investigation, authorities learned Davila had responded to third-party Facebook advertisements offering electrical materials at discounted prices. Those third parties reportedly provided pickup locations and contact names. Davila is said to have sent payments at discounted rates through Zelle and Caribbean Express money orders to individuals in the Dominican Republic without ever meeting the sellers in person.

Davila told investigators he intended to use the materials for his self-employed jobs or provide them to his employer in exchange for a percentage of the cost.

He was booked into the Nassau County Jail and Detention Center on a bond exceeding $35,000.
