Mother Faces Murder Charge After Child Found Dead in Santa Rosa County Home

MILTON, Fla. – The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after a 6-year-old child was found dead inside a residence early Wednesday morning.

Deputies responded shortly after midnight to a 911 call reporting a cutting incident in the 5000 block of Nowling Drive. Upon arrival, deputies located 40-year-old April Oliva lying with the child, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit assumed control of the investigation. Authorities said Oliva sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital, where she remains under medical care.

Officials confirmed a warrant has been issued for Oliva’s arrest on a charge of murder in connection with the death of her daughter.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue gathering evidence and conducting interviews. Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
