JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters announced the arrest of a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office police officer accused of falsifying overtime records and fraudulently collecting public funds.
On Wednesday, Officer Christian Madsen, an 11-year veteran of the agency, was arrested and charged with:
- Grand Theft
- Organized Fraud
- Official Misconduct
All charges are third-degree felonies.
According to investigators, the JSO Integrity Unit launched an investigation on February 12, 2026, after receiving information that Madsen allegedly submitted falsified overtime claims. Detectives determined Madsen received compensation for more than 200 overtime hours of traffic enforcement work that he did not perform.
Authorities say the false claims resulted in over $14,000 in unjustly obtained public funds.
Following his arrest, Madsen was immediately suspended, and his law enforcement authority was revoked. While civil service procedures must be followed, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed it will seek his termination.
Sheriff Waters emphasized accountability within the agency, stating that no employee is above the law and that officers are expected to meet the highest professional standards.
Madsen’s arrest marks the second arrest of a JSO employee in 2026.
