NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — Four adults have been arrested after a one-year-old child ingested methamphetamine inside a Callahan-area home, according to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, detectives were notified by the Florida Department of Children and Families that a toddler had been exposed to methamphetamine the previous day.
Investigators learned the child drank from a sippy cup that was later discovered to contain a small bag at the bottom. A resident of the home confirmed the bag contained methamphetamine.
Despite realizing the child may have been exposed to the drug, authorities say none of the adults in the home immediately called 911. Instead, they monitored the toddler overnight. When the child began vomiting, the mother transported the child to a nearby fire station. The toddler was later admitted to a local hospital for treatment related to a possible overdose.
“This is a heartbreaking and completely preventable situation,” said Sheriff Bill Leeper. “A one-year-old child was exposed to a dangerous, illegal drug because the adults in that home failed to provide even the most basic level of care and protection. There is absolutely no excuse for methamphetamine to be within reach of a child.”
Detectives executed a search warrant at the residence and located drug paraphernalia, including several glass pipes and containers containing methamphetamine residue.
The following residents of the home were arrested and charged with child neglect causing great bodily harm:
- Hayden Simmons
- Damien Alex Windham, 21
- Erica Catherine Foley, 46
- Judith Addison
Foley also faces an additional charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
All four suspects were booked into the Nassau County Jail & Detention Center. Bonds were set at more than $25,000 for Simmons and Windham, more than $10,000 for Foley, and more than $5,000 for Addison, with an additional bond exceeding $2,500 for Foley’s drug paraphernalia charge.
The child’s current condition has not been released.
