Tallahassee, FL — A man has been arrested months after a shooting left a victim critically injured near a Tallahassee apartment complex.
According to the Tallahassee Police Department, officers responded around 3:25 a.m. on December 24, 2025, to reports of a shooting near Ocala Road and West Tennessee Street.
When officers arrived, they located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators determined the victim had been shot while sitting inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the Aspen Run Apartment Complex.
After the shooting, the victim drove himself to a nearby Waffle House, where bystanders called for help.
The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Due to the severity of his injuries, police said he was unable to speak with investigators for several weeks.
During the investigation, detectives developed information identifying 23-year-old Damien Jamaal Johnson as the suspect.
Authorities said evidence showed Johnson encountered the victim while he was parked in the vehicle and then fired multiple rounds before fleeing the area.
Detectives continued collecting evidence over the following months. After consulting with the Florida State Attorney’s Office, investigators obtained a warrant for Johnson’s arrest.
Johnson was arrested on March 4, 2026, and charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Police said the arrest reflects the department’s commitment to holding violent offenders accountable.
