Suspect Shot And Killed After Confrontation With Officers At Jacksonville Gas Station

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – A man was shot and killed by police Tuesday morning following an armed robbery call at a Jacksonville gas station.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 9:20 a.m. on March 17, 2026, at a Gate gas station on Spring Park Road near Bowden Road.

Authorities said a middle-aged man entered the store, waited for customers to leave, and then pulled out a handgun in front of employees. He ordered them to exit the store and call police, while also making statements indicating he wanted to harm himself.

After the employees left, the suspect reportedly opened the door and threatened to come outside shooting before closing it again.

When officers arrived, the suspect made additional threats toward them. Officials said he then opened the door, raised his handgun, and began walking quickly toward officers.

One officer fired multiple rounds, striking the suspect. The man, identified as 49-year-old Michael Krause Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer who fired his weapon has been identified as Officer H. Cascante. No officers were injured during the incident.

This marks the sixth officer-involved shooting involving the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 2026.

The State Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation. Once that review is complete, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will conduct its own internal investigation.
