Orlando International Airport has earned a major industry recognition, taking home the top honor at the Routes Americas 2026 Awards.
Airport officials announced that Orlando International Airport (MCO) was named the Overall Winner for the first time in its history. The airport also received top recognition in the Over 20 Million Passengers category.
The Routes Awards are determined by airline votes, highlighting strong partnerships and confidence from carriers across the industry.
Leaders from MCO were in attendance when the awards were announced during the Routes Americas event in Rio de Janeiro.
“It is an honor, and a reflection of our commitment to global air service development, to receive this esteemed award at Routes Americas,” said Lance Lyttle, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
Officials say the recognition reflects MCO’s continued focus on expanding air service, building partnerships, and supporting travel growth in Central Florida.
The award follows a record-setting year for the airport. In 2025, MCO served 57.7 million passengers, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. The airport also added 45 new or expanded routes, including international destinations such as Paris, Madrid, Munich, Lima, and Hamilton.
In 2026, MCO continues to grow its global reach. In February, the airport launched a charter service to Tokyo, marking the first such route between Florida and the Asia Pacific region. Additional international expansion is planned, including a proposed nonstop route to Lisbon later this year.
Airport officials say the continued growth strengthens connections between Central Florida and destinations around the world.
