JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities are searching for a 23-year-old man accused of causing a fatal crash and fleeing the scene earlier this year, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators identified the suspect as Alexander Rivera-Russo, who is wanted in connection with a deadly collision that occurred on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, along University Boulevard South near Atlantic Boulevard.
According to the Traffic Homicide Unit, officers responded to the scene and found a 27-year-old woman with severe burns. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her vehicle was heavily damaged in what officials described as a fiery crash. A second vehicle was also damaged.
Detectives determined Rivera-Russo was speeding along University Boulevard when he struck the woman’s car, causing it to spin out and crash into a utility pole. Investigators said he then collided with the second vehicle before leaving the scene on foot, abandoning his damaged Dodge Challenger.
Authorities said leaving the scene of a crash, particularly one involving a fatality, is a criminal offense.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on Rivera-Russo’s whereabouts to contact investigators at 904-630-0500. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS, where tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
